ZEBRA PATTERNS
I try to make my life less complicated when decorating cakes. Although I love using brush for painting, making a little mistake can take a while to repair. When trying to paint zebra patterns over white fondant it can get even measier. So here is a quick and easy wait to get perfect zebra patterns on fondant.
All you need is:
- White fondant
- Dark fondant (chocolate in this picture)

OMG this is so perfect! Thank you! I have a friend who’s celebrating her birthday next week at the zoo. I had already decided to make her a 2 tiered zebra and tiger striped cake and actually was planning on faking the stripes. (The cakes themselves are both going to be marbled baked with white and black stripes and orange and black stripes.) Now I’m going to use your technique to make the stripes and make a little panda topper for the cake!
Your site is really wonderfully helpful and you write very clear instructions!

It was very much a success! http://tweetphoto.com/34907140
I probably should have lightly spritzed the surface with water or something because as you can kind of see in the bottom level the zebra stripes were starting to pull off. The top tiger tier was done the same way you showed only I rolled a circle slightly smaller than I needed for the cake, radiated the fondant out from the center and then rolled it out the rest of the way.
Birthday girl loved it.

I am making a wedding cake that will not be covered in fondant but smooth frosting. I am making “cascading” fondant petals, do you have any tips to ensure they will stay in place on the frosted cake? Thanks so much!
